María developed and implemented policies, processes, and collaborative initiatives that made services more trauma-informed and accessible to immigrant clients while working for the MICA Project.
This included interdisciplinary medical, legal, and mental health collaborations resulting in best-practices, procedures, and guidance. María, in partnership with immigration attorney, Ashley Hamill, and legal and mental health providers in the St. Louis region, created practical tools to minimize re-traumatization of clients and improve communication across legal-medical partnerships.
